[Editor's Note] Merry and Bright

Updated: Dec 16, 2021

by David M. Olsen

It’s December 15th of 2021. That means 2022 will be here in a little over two weeks. There’s a new variant of concern, an atmospheric river currently raining down on my section of California, and the ocean is an angry, chaotic mess. Un-surfable. Not paddling out leaves a vacancy in my soul. It feels more like home than home sometimes. Kind of likes words. And writers. And creatives. I love you most of all. You are my ocean and my connection to humanity. There is no greater pleasure in life than spending time with my creative family. That’s why these issues mean so much to me.

Life is all about balance though. And somewhere between my solace in the ocean, and the joy I have in working with incredibly talented creatives helps me maintain some sort of equilibrium. And I cannot be more excited about this issue. Winter issue number six. I can’t believe we’re going on three years of this crazy, fun, and energetic little magazine. I want to thank all of our incredible contributors for sharing their work. I know how much of your soul your pour into these words and images and I love you for it. I also want to thank my tirelessly dedicated editors, and A.E. Santana, my managing editor, who is on a dozen boards, has a full-time job, and still finds time to wrangle us into a cohesive form.

And thank you, dear reader. Here’s to you, to us, and to a new year. May it be filled with merry and bright.
