[Poetry] Two Poems by Arabella Sarver

two oceans

august. glimpses of life beyond the bridge. warmth dancing over burnt skin. a silver ring hangs in midair. garnets, pearls buried beneath the waves. a namesake, a home. surrender. atlantic.

september. turbulent sprays that cut the sky. black crags, white foam. madly in love. running without caution. heavy lungs, salt. a cold that comes without pain, a rising up. triumph. pacific.

VENICE

autumn has come and swallowed summer

a faint gold bead against the violent reds

months relent and fold into each other

time spirals and bends reconstructing

i am sinking but cannot yet drown

your eyes have shut and rotted closed

two fading black holes against pale skin

bones relent and fold into the motherly earth

your soul spirals and bends reconstructing

i am praying but cannot yet believe

my heart has drifted and opened again

a dull green light against the black waters

years will relent and fold into my lifetime

our love spirals and bends reconstructing

i am forgiving but cannot ever forget
